Buddy Coding And Talking It Through
February 16, 2022What is a Hybrid Work Model?
Hybrid is when there is a combination of working from home and working in the office.
When Covid hit everyone had to get used to a new way of life. This included working from home; wearing masks; not going out to restaurants and the list goes on.
As we start easing back into the old way of living there are a few things that we don't want to leave behind from Covid times. Working from home did come with some benefits. Companies save money on rent as they do not need to rent office space or can rent a lot less office space. There are less distractions working from home so productivity levels may rise. Employees have more time with their families as they no longer need time to commute to the office.
However there are some downsides to working from home. The team unit is weak because the best way to get to know your colleagues is the random conversations you have when going to make coffee or lunch, by knowing your team members this makes the team grow stronger. Teams that are strong in tech is very important as you have to work in a team on a lot of projects and some times you need to get help from other colleagues. It gets lonely working from home and sometimes you feel less motivated since there is no one watching over you. Lines can also be blurred as to what time to finish working as you are at home and your work is always at home with you.
Therefore a combination of working from home and working in the office helps keep a lot of the benefits of working from home and alleviates the downsides to working from home. It is good to use a flexible hybrid model and not have a schedule of when employees need to be in the office and rather they can pick and choose which days would benefit them the most that week to go in basted on their lives and the projects they are working on.
