March 23, 2020Google has released android 11(preview)(No longer opting to name android versions after deserts) a month earlier than they normally do and more than two months ahead of Google IO 2020, here’s what to expect.
Android 11 comes with the ability to check whether the phone is on 5G or not, you know? That next generation of wireless internet that will get beamed to billions of phone. So why is this important? Well many developers optimise their app based on which internet connection you’re on where that’s 4G or wifi-connection. This minimizes battery drain and data usage and delivers an overall better experience to the user.
Notifications are getting a revamp(again) with this new iteration of android allowing it to have a message tab built right into it. This bundles notifications together allowing you to ignore the notifications from an app(s) you’d rather not look at right now.
Dark Mode all the things. With the system wide dark mode that’s coming to Android 11, you’ll now also be able to set a schedule to activate it. Keep your phone bright during the day time and on dark during the night to not strain the eyes or blind us when we get that message at 2am in the morning.
Security permissions have seemed to get an overhaul as well. Now you can choose to only give access to a permission just once making sure it’s not getting information when you’re in the app when you don’t want to. Additionally if you deny a permission twice, the permission will no longer be requested in the app and would be permanently blocked making sure that whenever you use the app you won’t be bothered over and over and over again.
The file system has gotten a much needed revamp with Scoped Storage. Scoped Storage is a new way of organizing which files an app can read, this not only makes it more secure by not allowing other apps accessing unwanted information but also increasing file reading speed since it’s limited to where it can try and find files.
